Before groundbreaking started in 1979, what facility occupied the space currently known to all as Mountaineer Field?

This one has been up for a while. Here is the answer.
The site selected for the location of 'New' Mountaineer Field was a piece of land situated between the new College of Law campus and the University Medical facility (Ruby Memorial Hospital did not exist at the time) on the Evansdale campus. The area that would become Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium was previously a golf course, referred to by Wikipedia as the Morgantown Country Club.
