He sure can light a fire!! I was in the locker room for one of his pregame speaches at VMI!! THE MAN COULD MAKE A DEAD MAN RISE AND WALK AGAIN!!! Maybe thats a little to bold but you get my point!! And he doesn't do it by getting into the players face and telling them they are worthless!! He will drop the F-BOMB!!! But not like DICK ROD!! When Coach Stew walks into a home a parent knows they can trust his judgement. No one can say that about Rod!!! Look at the coaches that has come back to WVU!! They left when Rod got here!! That might tell ya what kinda guy you were dealing with!!!

Okay I've been reading alot of things about the upcoming draft! About the QBs and WRs and what teams are looking for in those two positions!! Then I look at one of the best QB in college football in Pat White!! The most likely thing that will happen is he wins the heisman and decides to give the draft a chance next year!! Do any of us really seeing him starting for a pro team!! I would love to see him in the huddle but we have to be truthful about it! Not a lot of teams are looking to take a spread QB!! Yes I know that Vince Young was a mobile QB but thats not a spread offense!! Now you can say he was drafted by MLB and they want him!! He is not going to start right away!! He will do his time in the minors and hope to get a shot in the BIGS!!! I want for him to make it so bad, not just for him but the entire state!! He is such a great kid I only wish him the best BUT!! I would love to see the University do something that might help the program down the road!! I would make a contract with Pat that would give him 5 year after college to give the NFL and MLB a chance!! The contract would be a coaching job on the football team!! Now you think I'm crazy!!! He was the cheerleader in the locker room when Rod couldn't get the job done!! At the Gator Bowl he took that team on his shoulders and willed them to a win!! He bonds very well with players!! From what I see he has helped with the recruits coming in to WVU!! Having a young coach that can learn from the staff we have might make a GREAT HEAD COACH in the future!! Just a thought but what do you think!!!

Gridiron Bash Cancelled WAJR-AM Morgantown, W.Va.
No concert this spring at Milan Puskar Stadium. Promoters have cancelled the Gridiron Bash featuring Dwight Yoakam that was scheduled for April 18th at Milan Puskar Stadium. The concert was going to coincide with the Gold-Blue game which will be played April 19th. Promoters say the cancellation is due to confusion over an NCAA rule that would prohibit the involvement of players in the promotion of the event. Promoters were going to use players to participate in a pep rally to promote the event and would be given free admission to the concert, both of which are NCAA violations.
MSL Sports and Entertainment say it was a last-minut interpretation of rules that forced the postponement of the concerts, but NCAA officials told USA Today that MSL did not contact the NCAA to ensure complaince until last week.
MSL Sports and Entertainment says it will postpone the 16 shows that were scheduled to take place the night before spring football games at universities across the country. Instead the promoter hopes to hold the concerts in the fall or next spring.

Spring football practice is always a chance for young and unknown players to prove themselves. During West Virginia’s first week of drills this spring, one running back feels as though he finally has the opportunity to prove his worth.
When WVU released its depth chart for spring football a few weeks back, the running back spot was likely not the first place where fans and media types turned their attention. With sophomore-to-be Noel Devine returning to the fold fresh off a fantastic freshman season which included a breakout game in the Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma, replacing the productivity of former All-American Steve Slaton was not a chief concern for Mountaineer football observers.
Sure enough, Devine’s name was perched atop the depth chart in the backfield alongside senior quarterback Patrick White. Behind him? Some guy named Mike Poitier. Even the most hardcore of Mountaineer fans doesn’t know Mike Poitier from Sidney Poitier.
So ,with that in mind, it begs the question. Just who the heck is this guy sharing reps with Noel Devine?
“Well, for one I’m a hard worker,” Poitier told BlueGoldNews.com. “I’m disciplined, and I’m always for the team. It really doesn’t bother me that nobody knows who I am. I just keep trying to prove myself, and hopefully eventually (people) will know who I am.”
For three years, players around the WVU football program have known who Poitier is. They’ve seen him week in and week out, busting his hump on the scout team running the opposition’s plays. Twice (2005 and 2006), Poitier was honored by the Mountaineer coaching staff as one of the scout team players of the year.
And while his upbeat attitude would lead one to believe that a fourth season on the scout team in 2008 would not leave Poitier down in the dumps, the reality is that the time is now for the Pembroke Pines, Fla. native to strut his stuff with the first and second teams.
In the fall, head coach Bill Stewart will welcome no less than three scholarship running backs into the Mountaineer family. This means that Poitier has exactly 15 practice sessions this spring to show why he, and not one of the newcomers, should enter fall camp as the chief understudy for Devine.
“It’s all about working hard,” he said. “I’ve got to work hard every day, and come out knowing I have to prove something.”
To tell the truth, Poitier has been trying to prove himself ever since he came to WVU in the fall of 2005. After a solid high school career playing at the highest level in Florida, offers to play in college were few and far between. So few, in fact, that the soft-spoken speedster spent a year sitting out before coming to WVU.
“That was a rough time for me,” he said. "I had a lot of little schools looking at me, but I always knew I wanted to play at a big school and I could. I ended up sitting out a year, but with the help of my father and some other people I ended up getting a shot to come up here.”
And now, he’s getting his shot to stick around as more than just a scout team superstar. Even though he’s known nothing but the taxi squad in his Mountaineer career, he always believed the day would come when an opportunity presented itself for meaningful playing time.
“I really did, I really did. I just kept praying, and kept working hard. I knew I would get a shot,” Poitier said.
With the opportunity now firmly in his grasp, Mike Poitier will do everything he can to ensure that it doesn’t slip away.
“I get to prove myself to the coaches that I can do it, and everything’s fresh,” he explained. “If I ever feel like I’m getting too comfortable, then that’s going to be a problem for me. I always want to come out here and work hard to prove to myself and my coaches that this is where I should be.”
Even if you don’t yet know his name.

A Worthwhile Cause Garrett Cullen Morgantown, WV
Kids at the WVU Children’s Hospital received some special visitors Thursday afternoon as Mountaineer head football coach Bill Stewart, WVU President Mike Garrison, and six players gave up a little of their time to meet and visit with the children. “This is a very worthwhile cause to come over here and share and be with these youngsters. It hits you right in the heart and you just find out how lucky we are and how blessed we are to be healthy every single day of our lives,” Stewart said. “Health is probably that and love and faith and that’s the greatest gift any man or young lady can have. It was very special today.” WVU receiver Tito Gonzales said meeting with the children was a total reality check. “I just woke up this morning complaining that I had to go to the stadium and wake up at 5:15,” said Gonzales. “It goes to show you that what I had to do this morning ain’t nothing compared to what these kids have to do each and every day.” Gonzales said the opportunity to have a positive impact on the children’s lives was a blessing. “It just takes me back to square one and being humble each and every day that I wake up and knowing that what I’m going through really ain’t that bad,” Gonzales said. “Fighting for your life is truly a much tougher task.” WVU kicker Pat McAfee seemed moved by the reception he and his teammates received from the kids. “I’m just a regular guy but it seems like when we come over here, like Reed who’s just a regular red-headed guy and Stancheck is just middle lineman, just regular guys and then we come over here and it just makes people’s days, I don’t understand it,” he said. “But it’s really nice to be here and Coach Stew put this together and it’s just, it was awesome, I can’t put it into words.” Stewart encouraged Mountaineer fans to attend the annual Gold-Blue Spring Game on April 19th at 12:30. The cost is five dollars and all proceeds will go toward the WVU Children’s Hospital. “We need to get that thing two-fold and three-fold and really promote this,” Stewart said. “The Spring Game again is a nice time to come see your future Mountaineers or your current Mountaineers play, but the most important reason I hope you’ll come to the spring game is to support this great cause here at West Virginia University and this Children’s Hospital with a five dollar donation, that’s all we ask.” Stewart said the game has been great in raising money for the WVU Children’s Hospital over the years. “I think it’s just a worthwhile cause. We’ve given more than 800,000 dollars to people, the great state of West-by-God-Virginia from their hearts and their billfolds have given more than 800,000 dollars for this great cause,” he said. “I hope that will really increase and it’s all we’ve ever asked, a five dollar donation. Every dime goes to the proceeds of this great cause.”
If this is the 1st time these guys have stepped foot in that hospital.......WHAT KIND OF COACH WAS ROD!!! Yeah it knocks you down a little bit but it does you good to be knocked every once in awhile!!! Look for this to happen A LOT MORE with Coach Stew!!!

I looked in on Scout to see what UM fans are saying!!! They are REALLY worried that they will become the Miami of the north!! Remember there are alot of OLD SCHOOL people ar UM that remember the days of Bo and they don't like the way Dick is running the show!! I know its still the Spring but these guys have lived 50-75 years of UM Football and don't like BIG CHANGES!!! They are not getting the recruits that fit the UM campus!! But they are also talking the the lineman is talking to OSU about sitting out this year and transfering!! But one guy was saying that when he played he was able to transfer because of a coaching change and not lose a year!! I've never heard of that but there are a lot of NCAA rules I've never heard of!! With what I read UM fans are not real big Dick fans at this time!!!

The Mountaineers may be going through spring drills over the next few weeks, but head coach Bill Stewart is already in midseason form.
Monday marked the return to the field for Stewart and the WVU football team after a week off for the University's annual spring recess. While Monday signified a return to the gridiron in Morgantown, throughout the rest of the sporting world it was opening day for Major League Baseball. Fittingly, West Virginia's first-year head coach played along with the theme by throwing his team a curveball right out of the gate.
Instead of starting practice doing special teams as is almost always the case, Stewart instructed director of strength and conditioning Mike Joseph to put the Mountaineers through a series of sprints. Normally, such workouts are reserved for the end of practice.
"It was a curveball, and it was intended to be a curveball," Stewart said after the spring's fifth workout. "They handled it in fine fashion. I was really pleased. I saw a couple of guys struggle here and there, but for the most part I was very pleased with the way they ran."
The thought process for Stew was quite simple: after having a week off, the message was sent that spring break was in the past (no Lion King references needed), and spring football was back in session.
"A bunch of them went home and ate over break, and that’s ok," Stewart noted. "It’s good to go home and eat. You can spend too much time on the couch and too much time eating mama and grandmama’s cooking. We kind of got that out of them a little bit, and got them back and set a little bit of a tempo, starting practice off with some very good stretching and running some 80 yard sprints.
"They got the rust off," explained the Fairmont State alum. "They got the rust off real early. Did you see what coach Mike Joseph did there? That was awesome."
* * *
When the football portion of practice began, a number of players caught the watchful eye of their head coach. Specifically on defense, current and former linebackers were very impressive.
Senior right tackle Ryan Stanchek, a likely All-America candidate in the fall, departed Mountaineer Field early for an evening class. Stanchek's absence is never a good thing for the Mountaineer offensive line, but was music to the ears of junior defensive end Zack Cooper.
"When Stanchek came off of that left tackle spot, we didn’t have anyone who could block Zack Cooper," said Stew. "He was just a man possessed, like a bullet off of that edge."
Cooper moved down to defensive end after finding playing time hard to come by at outside linebacker. The outside 'backer spots are now held down by sophomore J.T. Thomas and senior-to-be Mortty Ivy. Just like Cooper, both Thomas and Ivy were all over the field on Monday.
"I thought Mortty Ivy really did well," Stewart said of the former Gateway Gator. "Mortty, every time I saw him he was flying around. Our defense needs to see that, and needs to have that happen.
"And No. 30. Have you all seen No. 30 out there running around? Wow. J.T. Thomas is…we’re fast. I don’t know how to say it, but we’re just fast. Our defense is fast, and our linebackers are really fast."
Ironically, the swift emergence of Thomas has come in part to his ability to let the game slow down pre-snap.
"He’s just playing now with so much more confidence," Stewart explained. "He’s getting to where he knows what he’s doing before the snap, so when the ball is snapped, he just reacts."
* * *
The offense welcomed back Jarrett Brown, the quarterback turned guard/forward fresh off an appearance in the Sweet 16. (Seriously...has anybody had a more successful 2008 than that guy so far? A Fiesta Bowl win followed by a trip to the Sweet 16.)
"Last night in the team meeting, I welcomed him back and said ‘Hey, I saw you on TV.’ Everybody laughed, they thought that was pretty good," Stewart recalled.
While Brown's presence on the basketball team was lauded by head coach Bob Huggins throughout the latter part of the season, his absence from the Puskar Center means he has some catching up to do, particularly with the new terminology installed by rookie offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jeff Mullen.
However, with four spring practice sessions already in the books prior to Brown's return to the field on Monday, the coaching staff decided to throw the junior quarterback right into the mix rather than having him ease his way back into his familiar role.
"We talked a lot last night about Jarrett as a staff, and we’re going to throw him in there," Stewart announced. "He’ll have to cram, which we have three weeks to cram before the Gold-Blue game. Jarrett’s going to have to spend a little time on his own without coaches looking at film and studying the playbook. He’ll be just fine. I don’t worry about Jarrett."
Terminology aside, Brown was impressive during his time on the field Monday. The big Floridian lofted a beautiful pass over the middle at one point, and showed all the physical skills that leave Mountaineer fans and coaches alike -- not to mention Brown himself -- wanting to see more of No. 16 on the field.
According to Stewart, that wish will be granted this fall, though the specifics of his role were understandably not revealed on Monday.
"You’re going to see Jarrett Brown on the field," Stewart vowed. "Now, I’m not going to tell you where he might be, or if he’s at quarterback you might not know where Pat might be. We have a great plan for both Jarrett and Patrick to be on the field together. That is going to be good. That will happen."

Okay I don't think that Liberty is a good choice but this was thrown in due to a conflict a few years ago!! I can't remember the school that pulled out of our game and wanted to play Auburn instead!! That sent us looking for someone to play a couple years ago and it continues to affect our scheduel!! Its is really diffcult to get even mid-major teams to do a home/home contract or even a one year contract!! One other point that I found was (thanks to some guys at SCOUT) that everyone has their own Liberty!! I know that no excuse and we get looked at a little harder than other team when it comes to our schduel!! BUT there are some teams palying 2 1AA or mid-majors during the same year!! Penn State: Coastal Carolina, Temple OSU- Youngstown St, Ohio, Troy (decent) Oklahoma- Tennessee Chatanooga FSU- Western Carolina, Tenn-Chat VT- Furman, Western Kentucky BC- Kent State, Rhode Island UGA- Georgia Southern, Central Michigan LSU- Appy State (Decent) Pitt- Buffalo Rutgers- Howard (and an open date looking at 1-aa to fill) USF- Tenn Martin Conn- Hofstra MSU-Eastern Mich, Fl Atlantic Notre Dame- San Diego State Mizzou- Southeastern Missouri, Buffalo, Nevada Kansas- S. Houston St., Louis. Tech Texas- Fl Atlantic, Texas El-Paso Oregon- Utah State
