WVU women 19th in latest hoops poll MORGANTOWN — The West Virginia University women’s basketball team (1-0) fell one spot to No. 19, garnering 345 points, in The Associated Press Top 25 poll on Monday. Ranked No. 18 last week, with 336 poll points, WVU defeated Canisius 76-49 in its season-opener Friday at the WVU Coliseum. Five other Big East teams are ranked in the poll: No. 2 Connecticut, No. 6 Rutgers, No. 22 Louisville, No. 23 Notre Dame and No. 24 DePaul. Pitt, ranked No. 20 last week, was the lone team to drop out of the Top 25 this week after falling at Penn State on Sunday. West Virginia is back in action at the Coliseum this Friday at 5:30 p.m. against St. Francis, Pa., as part of a doubleheader with the WVU men, who take on ArkansasMonticello at 8 p.m. At halftime of the men’s contest, the women’s team will be honored with a banner-raising ceremony, commemorating last year’s 21-11 NCAA tournament team.
