Kids got their 1st snow day of the year today. It's 26 degrees out and so far just a few inches of snow with a possibility of 4-6 more. I was 5 years old back in 1950 when we had the big thanksgiving snow that dumped 46 inches here in Fairmont that virtually shut everything down but since then all through my school years , I can't recall ever having a snow day and I can remember walking to school in some pretty deep snow and the bus riders were late if they made it at all. No snow days or other days off like the falculty senate days and such that they have now. One thing nice though is school always started the Tuesday after Labor Day and let out the last week of May.

No snow here, though its a bit chilly. 47 degrees tis morning.
We obviously don't have snow days here. We have Hurricane days.. A few years ago, the kids were out for 3-4 weeks after Ivan.

MJ, compared to the hurricanes you get down there, the snow up here is nothing. I'm thankful for the mountains that protects us from so much but after all - this is almost heaven...

I was just thinking the same thing the other day about snow days. We had them but not nearly as many as we do now. It had to really come a good one to call school off. I remember praying for them to cancel school because I hadn't done my homework, and then of course go sledding and not get it done anyhow!! LOL The big thing now is the 2 hour delay schedule, if it gets anywhere close to a wind chill of zero they do that. A lot of times they even cancel school because of the temp. I know damn well we didn't have those when I was in school. Also they have an "In Service Day" here once a month, the teachers go but not the kids. Didn't have those either in my day.
