Former La Salle center Aaric Murray said he was going to announce what college he was going to transfer to on May 7th, but apparently he couldn't hold in his excitement. Early Saturday morning Murray announced on twitter that he is going to transfer to West Virginia next season.
"I'm the newest member of the west Virginia team!" said Murray through twitter.
No official announcement has made by the university and he will have to sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules. Murray went on an official visit to WVU this past weekend. The 6-foot-10 center narrowed down his choices to Kansas and West Virginia a few weeks ago. Last season at La Salle he averaged 15.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
La Salle head coach John Giannini spoke to Aaron Bracy of PHILAHOOPS.com about Murray's decision to transfer. He said was a little upset Murray decided to leave his program.
“It’s always disappointing when you have a young player who doesn’t reach his potential,” Giannini told Aaron Bracy of PHILAHOOPS.COM. “Aaric’s potential is just so great, but I know in my heart I did everything I possibly could have but for some reason it just wasn’t as good as we wanted it to be."
Bracy has seen Murray play throughout the regular season. In an interview with MetroNews, Bracy said that Murray has shown flashes of how talented he could be, but says he's never been able to stay out of foul trouble and has to work on his game.
"He's a super talent, but is inconsistent and really needs a lot of refinement on his game," said Bracy. "That's not to say he can't turn into a start player, but he needs a lot of work."
