Mountaineer Aaric Murray has survived the initial rounds of cuts for USA’s World University Games team. Murray is one of 14 players remaining on the team after the first few days of training camp, which has been ongoing at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Two more players will be cut from the team before departure on August 8th for play in China.
Along with Murray, four other players made the cut from the Big East in Pitt's Ashton Gibbs, Notre Dame's Tim Abromaitis, Syracuse's Scoop Jardine and Connecticut's Shabazz Napier.
The other finalists include Missouri's Marcus Denmon, Draymond Green of Michigan State, JaMychal Green from Alabama, John Jenkins of Vanderbilt, Orlando Johnson from UC Santa Barbara, Yale's Greg Mangano, Trevor Mbakwe from Minnesota, Ray McCallum from Detroit Mercy, and Kentucky's Darius Miller.
Team USA has an exhibition contest on August 11th with official game action getting underway on August 13th in a matchup against Mexico. Other teams in the group with the USA and Mexico include Finland, Hungary, Israel and South Korea.
