I just got home from the Gold/Blue game. GREAT CROWD, the MSNSportsNet web site said it was estimated at over 18,000 but I think it had to be way more, the home side was nearly full, bottom deck was full, top deck home side at least 3/4 full, part of the crowd wrapped around the bowl end of the stadium and some folks spilled over into the visitor side. I'd put it more at 25 to 28,000 myself. Pat looked good, really was firing some darts, as well as Jarrett. Pat made one really bad pass which Pat Lazear intercepted. Brandon Starks looks like he can be a playmaker at receiver. Noel made some nice runs, I'm amazed every time I see the kid how shifty and speedy he is, but most of all I LOVED THE PASSING downfield I saw today, there were several long pass attempts. I think they ran the bubble screen twice, maybe three times. We didn't see much of the new motion stuff they've been talking about but Coach Stew said he wanted to keep things under wraps since everybody was allowed to bring cameras in and you never know who was in the crowd watching. Mike Poitier looked good running and catching today and I was really impressed with how our backs can catch the ball out of the back field and turn on the speed. It seems we have a plethora of 5'7, 5' 8" running backs who are all burners. I'll be glad to see Kerns in the fall, we need a back with some bruiser attributes. Nobody really stood out at fullback, but they did run several plays WITH a tight end in the formation, and we hadn't seen that in a while now. Other notable things I saw/heard - Did anyone out there sit next to the box seats in sec 65? If so, you would have heard the older gentleman sitting behind me who BELTED OUT the National Anthem when the pep band played it, which was quite awesome to hear someone with some National Pride, he got a standing O from those sitting in the section, nice job. Coolest shirt I saw today was a group of folks who had on Gold shirts that said Coach Stew's Painting Crew, now that is clever, and of course that's in reference to that meathead Ken Kendrick for his painter comment. Overall I was very pleased, couldn't have asked for better weather, a great crowd and of course it all benefits the Childrens' Hospital. Only criticizm is that WVU obviously only expected half that size crowd and they needed more concessions opened. You could tell they were not prepared for that size of a crowd. I wanted to try to meet some of ya'll but I forgot to check in here this morning to see when/where everyone was, but hell, we only got a few months and football season will be here so I'll try then.

Great commentary as ALWAYS Joe!
Sounds like it was a GREAT time and I am GREATFUL sooooo many Mountaineers showed up! And for a worthy cause! Glad the weather was better too.. I was on IM with Jim and he said the consession lines were VERY long as well..
We WILL get organized over the summer for our fall tailgating so more Mountaineer Fans get to party with other Mountaineer Fans! We have an incredipbly good group of active fans so it should be GREAT come fall!

MSN said that because they only printed 18,000 tickets. People were paying 5 dollars to get into the stadium. Estimates around 25,000 easy.
