When talking to Ona, W.Va., product Cole Bowers, you always got the feeling that West Virginia would be the place when and if they extended him a scholarship offer. That came to fruition a while ago and after taking a visit to West Virginia this past weekend Bowers quickly decided to end his recruitment and join his new family in Morgantown.
Cabell Midland High School offensive tackle Cole Bowers gave a verbal commitment to West Virginia Head Coach Bill Stewart on Tuesday evening, adding another talented prospect to a class that already has some great ones in it. Bowers, a 6-foot-5.5, 280-pound lineman could end up playing anywhere on the line and talked about his decision with us.
“Well, I went up there this past weekend and really enjoyed myself,” Bowers said. “I called Coach Bill Stewart tonight and told him it just felt right and that I wanted to commit to West Virginia. He was very fired up and said he was excited to have me as a part of the Mountaineer family. He was yelling about it and running around…that’s what I love about Coach Stewart though, he’s a great guy and you never see him off his game.”
“I also really love the family atmosphere at West Virginia that you get from the players, coaches and even the fans,” Bowers explained. “They’re a top-notch program that has finished Top 10 nationally for three years straight and they also have all three majors I’m considering in business, criminal justice and engineering, if I can pull that last one off with football.”
“When you add the environment, education, stadium and facilities to the mix I just saw it as the best place for me,” Bowers added. “It’s also near my grandmother’s house and only three hours from home, so my family can come see me play.”
Bowers reports a 350 max bench press, 465 max squat and 270-pound power clean. He also carries a 3.7 GPA in the classroom.
