Well, I haven't said much since the ECU thrashing, but I've licked my wounds and tried to put things in perspective over the last 9 days. First off, we fans have become spoiled the last few years since Pat White and Steve Slaton exploded onto the scene during the 2005 season. The victory over Georgia in the 2006 Sugar Bowl brought our program into the big time college football world. Now, since that January night in 2006, there hasn't been one game we have played that I didn't feel 100% confident that we could win. A few of them had me concerned, but not one that I thought we could lose. Some of us more "mature" fans know that was not always the case. I'm sure some of you were still in diapers when we played Notre Dame for the NC, but let's roll the calendar back even farther than that. There once was a time when some of us, even though we were avid Mountaineer fans, knew we were going to lose to Penn State. There was always a glimmer of hope deep down, but we pretty much chalked that one up as a loss before the season started. Pitt was pretty much the same way, and in later years Miami took their place. In those days 8-3 or 7-4 with a bowl appearance we were thrilled. There were quite a few horrible seasons we suffered through as well. Now with three 11 win seasons in a row, we've come to expect to win every game, or at the very least, be in it at the end. That's why I took the ECU loss so hard, because soon into the 3rd quarter I realized that we really didn't have a chance to come back. I still hoped, but deep down I knew it wasn't going to happen. This wasn't the same Mountaineer team I've grown accustomed to watching the last 3 years and it was tough. So my spoiled ass took a spanking and I faced reality. Perfect seasons are few and far between, I don't care what team you are, it's a monumental task. That was one game, one loss, of many games to be played this season. And it wasn't a conference loss. So we took a dive in the polls, big deal!! We have virtually a whole season left to play. I know our boys faced reality as well and will regroup, focus and get back to Mountaineer football as we know it. There is plenty of time left to have a successful season, win the BE and have another BCS bowl appearance. One loss did not destroy our season. We've come to expect too much from these young kids, so it's time to stop being spoiled, rally behind Stew and our team and start kicking some ass!! And it starts this Thursday when we have Buffalo burgers for supper!!!
