Mountaineer Madness

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University will officially tip off the 2007-08 men’s and women’s basketball seasons with Mountaineer Madness presented by Full Throttle Friday, Oct. 12, at 9 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum. Admission to the event is free with gates opening at 8 p.m.
A laser light show, a slam dunk contest and a two-ball competition between both teams highlight just a few of the events that will occur. Other evening highlights include the introduction of both the men’s and women’s teams, team scrimmages by both squads and speeches from women’s coach Mike Carey and men’s coach Bob Huggins.
Other events include t-shirt give-a-ways, highlight videos of both teams and performances from the Mountaineer pep band, cheerleaders and dance team. Men’s basketball play-by-play announcer Tony Caridi will emcee the event.
Mountaineer Madness presented by Full Throttle will be begin with the men’s and women’s team autograph sessions on the Coliseum floor from 8:15 to 9 p.m.
The first 100 WVU students will get free Papa John’s pizza and Full Throttle energy drinks.
The Mountaineer women’s team returns all five starters from last season’s NCAA Second Round squad that boasted a 21-11 record. This season the squad will be lead by its seven seniors, the largest senior class in WVU women’s basketball history and has already received numerous national preseason Top 25 rankings.
The Mountaineer men’s team returns three starters from last year’s NIT Championship squad and 27-9 overall record. WVU also welcomes Huggins as its new coach.
