A big step forward for the Mountaineers. First time we've seen the Mountaineer offense this season. Don't want to make too much out of just one game.
1. Auburn - This is a team with no passing attack which makes it easy for the opponent to focus on stopping the run. I also saw a lot of missed tackles where they were trying to tackle the ball.
2.Quarterback - B-minus. Two early interceptions put us in an early hole, but he was accurate on most of his throws, and followed coches directions allowing other guys to win this game.
3. Running backs - A-plus. Devine had a few 20-30 yard runs, but I was just as impressed by plays where he was hit in the backfield and managed to get back to the line of scrimmage. Sanders and Rodgers had a couple of nice runs.
4. Offensive line - B-plus. Best game so far this season.
5. Passing defense - B. Auburn offered no passing threat.
6. Rush defense - B-minus. Gave up some yardage in the first half, aided by poor officiating.
7. Special teams - C. Give Pat McAfee an A, and the rest of the Special teams a D. Two kick returns over 60 yards, two fumbles (not lost) by Lankster.
8. Coaching - B-plus. Unhappy that we were not ready for the onsides kick (I actually predicted it). Otherwise, the defense played with great enthusiasm. I especially liked the subtle changes on offense, putting Will Johnson or Kovatch in the backfield, a couple of passes over the middle to Jalloh (which we should do every game) and enough throws down the field to keep the defense honest. I also liked the hurry-up offense which we had not been using.
9. Players of the game: Offense - Lots of names: Isdaner, Stancheck, Dent, White, Jalloh, but this was Noel Devine's game.
Defense - Again, a lot of names: Ivy, Iain Smith, Thomas, Cooper, but I will go with Sidney Glover and Anthony Leonard.
