Here is the answer to Trivia #93:
The WVU football team became known as the 'Mountaineers' sometime around 1905, taking the name from the state motto "Montani Semper Liberi", or "Mountaineers Are Always Free". Prior to this time, the players on the West Virginia University football team were called 'The Snakes'.
