The playing career of Quinton Andrews at West Virginia University is officially over. Mountaineer coach Bill Stewart confirms to MetroNews that Andrews is no longer a member of the team. Stewart said Andrews, who was second on the team in tackles last season, is expected to transfer to Division II North Alabama where former Mountaineer Terry Bowden was recently named head coach. Although Andrews was a productive player he also had a series of discipline problems during his WVU career dating back to former coach Rich Rodriguez. Prior to the 2007 season, Andrews was arrested for obstructing justice when he refused to allow police into his apartment as they attempted to arrest former Mountaineer Jason Gwaltney. A reported profane shouting incident with a WVU assistant coach during December’s Meineke Car Care was apparently the final incident which led to his mutually agreed upon departure from the team. Andrews, who played the bandit position in WVU’s defense, will be replaced on the depth chart by Boogie Allen, Courtney Stewart, and Derek Knight. Stewart also said that slot receiver Jock Sanders, holder Jeremy Kash and fullback Maxwell Anderson remain suspended indefinitely and will miss all of Spring practice, saying they still have work to do before they are reinstated on the team. Sanders was suspended after being arrested for DUI last month while Kash and Anderson were suspended for a bar fight during the season.
