WVU football player Jock Sanders will go on trial in July for his DUI arrest back in February.
Sanders was in court Tuesday morning for a pre-trial hearing to set the date of the jury trial. It will be held July 27th in Monongalia County Magistrate court.
Sanders is still suspended from the football team indefinitely following his arrest back in February when he was pulled over for speeding (going 36 in a 25) and going left of center. He reportedly failed three field sobriety tests and blew a .125 BAC. The legal driving BAC limit in West Virginia is .08.
WVU head coach Bill Stewart has been non-committal about whether or not he will allow Sanders back on the team before practice resumes in August.
Last month on Metronews Sportsline he said, "I'm not sure whether he will be reinstated or not, he still has some things to do."
Sanders has been working out at Pro Performance in Morgantown since he has not been allowed to work out with the team. Coach Stewart has kept abreast of his progress through trainers at the facility and from the school's Judiciary Committee which has been following the legal process. Stewart has even met with Sanders to discuss his situation. The coach wants Sanders to talk to with a panel of players as well.
Coach Stewart has also said he wants Sanders to be in good standing with the university academically and clear the legal process before he is allowed back on the team. And as long as his trial is not delayed the legal process should be finished (one way or another) by the time practice starts.
Last season he led the Mountaineers with 53 catches for 462 yards and seven touchdowns while running for 278 yards and two scores.
