Just like I didn't get too depressed over last week's uninspired effort, I don't want to get too pumped over today's victory. However, there were some things I really liked today. Let me first say that Liberty was better than I thought they would be, and ECU was worse than I expected.
The Good - Once again Jarrett Brown was the best player on the field. 400 yards of total offense. I don't know how many times PW had 400 total yds., but I'm guessing not very often. I have said all along I am not worried about a dropoff at the QB position. Jock Sanders, despite the biggest goof of the day on a muffed punt, still had a great game. Not sure of his numbers, but he had a bunch of catches, yards after the catch, couple good runs, and some excellent downfield blocking. When our WRs block this is an explosive offense. The defense gave up some yardage (mostly first half, as usual), but overall played a good game. First and goal at the 6 after Jock's fumble, held them to a FG. You could point to several key points in the game. That was the biggest one. Kozlowski has looked great punting the ball in 2 games. No dropoff from last season.
The Bad- Kickoff coverage (AGAIN). I will just cut and paste this every week. Coach Stewart is obviously too stupid to solve this problem. It will cost us a game this season - probably next week at Auburn. Penalties. Although the second chop block call was total bullshit. Hopefully we can correct this before next week. Injuries. Don't know how serious, but Scooter Berry left the game, Julian Miller (later returned), and our middle linebacker went out and did not return. I also believe there was an injury on the offensive line. These injuries could really hurt us next week.
The Ugly - Watching the game on my computer. Terrible picture, sometimes delayed and skippy. ECU's pass offense. We got some early pressure on Pinkney and maybe it rattled him. In the second half he threw several bad passes and their receivers had a few drops.
As usual our defense played better in the 2nd half than in the first. And I saw the potential for an extremely explosive offense - dare I say as explosive as the offense run by our previous coaching staff. If teams defend us as a running team, and if we get good pass blocking....................well, let's see how we do next week. Most think next week will be a defensive struggle. I don't. Auburn put up 42 this week. I look for a shootout with turnovers deciding the result.
