Gloster Talks About WVU Commit

Scout.com talked with 2010 prospect Troy Gloster from Good Counsel High School (Olney, MD). The three-star LB had narrowed his list to a final three and finally made his choice today. Gloster talks about his verbal commitment to WVU.
Troy Gloster has always had West Virginia on the top of his list of schools since they were the first to offer him last year. Since then he has added double digit offers but WVU remained towards the top. He had narrowed his list down to a final three of WVU, Michigan and Stanford. Today Gloster decided to make it official and let West Virginia know he would be coming next year. Gloster brings versatility and athleticism to the linebacker position. Gloster is glad to have the decision behind him and looks forward to being a Mountaineer.
“It is a big relief to have it behind me now,” said Gloster. “I feel really good about my decision and can’t wait to get there. They have always sort of led the pack since they offered me. They were the first school to offer and my relationship with Defensive Coordinator (Jeff) Casteel is really strong. They really have always been the leader. I am very appreciative of the offers I had and especially from Michigan and Stanford. They are great schools and football programs. In the end I just made the best choice for me.”
Gloster said he called Coach Casteel to give him the good news. “Coach Casteel and I talk every week. I called him tonight around 7 p.m. He asked me when I was coming for my official and I just told him I am ready to be a Mountaineer. He said he was ecstatic and glad to have me on board. He said he was going to go tell all the coaches. They are at the hotel getting ready for their game tomorrow night on ESPN.”
I asked Gloster when he really knew that WVU was going to be his final decision. “I really knew last week. I mean they were always really at the top but last week I sat down with my parents and discussed all the pros and cons of each school. It was clear that WVU was the place for me. To have the support of my family really made it an easy decision. Earlier on I was thinking I may take an official to Michigan but I just knew that would be a waste of time, WVU is definitely where I want to be. I won’t be taking any other visits.”
And what were the main factors that led to the decision? “It is close to home. I also have family in western Pennsylvania that is pretty close to campus. I love the defensive scheme they run. They use the linebackers a lot to blitz and make plays so I like their role. They have consistently had a top defense and program. I like that it is a solid program with good stability for the players.”
WVU told Gloster they have a plan for him. “I will probably start out as a weak side linebacker. Depending on how things go I may move inside down the road but Coach Casteel told me I will start my career on the outside.”
Troy’s brother Drew is a player at Maryland. What did big brother have to say about Troy’s decision? “Drew was very excited for me. We just realized that Maryland plays at WVU next year so regardless if I redshirt I will still be out there for our home game. It will be nice for my parents to have us both be out there. That will be good for them to have their boys together.”
Gloster plans to get to WVU again this fall. “I am trying to get there for the Marshall game. I know for sure I will be there for the Connecticut game. I am not sure which game I will use for my official but I will be going there for sure for at least one more game.”
I asked Gloster what the WVU fans can expect from him Troy when he arrives on campus next year. “They are getting a hard worker that really wants to excel and be a great player. I am a smart and disciplined player. I will always do my best to help WVU win.”
