Cleveland Glenville senior defensive back Latwan Anderson is having a great senior season and is focused on leading his team into the state playoffs. Anderson, a four-star prospect, has collected scholarship offers from many of the top programs in the country and recently added an Ohio State offer. Bill Greene saw Anderson recently and has the latest on this young star
Cleveland Glenville senior Latwan Anderson is off to a great start this season. The four-star defensive back, who transferred to Glenville from Lakewood St. Edward, is one of the best players on a team with legitimate state title dreams.
"Things are going good for me so far, although I don't think I'm playing as well as I can," Anderson told BuckeyeSports.com. "I think my play has been inconsistent, but I'm looking to get better over the second half of the season." The adjustment to Glenville and playing for legendary head coach Ted Ginn has gone extremely well for Anderson.
"This move has been great for me," he said. "Coming here was more of a decision about life, rather than football. Coach Ginn has been great to me and he's a man I can talk to. We talk about my decision about choosing a college, how to pick a school. He is also there for me, and all the players, to talk about family situations if we need that. My teammates have been great and I'm enjoying it here."
Anderson currently holds scholarship offers from many of the top programs in the nation including West Virginia, Georgia, Miami (Fla.), Florida, Ohio State and many others. He spoke about the factors influencing his eventual decision.
"Like a lot of players, I'm looking at going to a place where I can play early," Anderson said. "I'm also looking at finding the best situation for me academically. I will talk to my family and to my coaches, but in the end, I will do what I think is right for me. I'd like to major in education and I'd like to be a school teacher or counselor some day. I think I could be in a position some day to help younger kids with making good decisions.
Anderson has gone back and forth on setting a date to announce his choice, and admitted he is feeling some pressure regarding his choice.
"I thought about making my announcement on my birthday in early October, but now I think I need to take some visits and make sure I'm totally sure of where I want to go," Anderson said. "There's a lot more in making a decision than people think. Sometimes I just sit in my room after practice and try to think of what's best for me. It can get to you a little bit, but I know how blessed I am to be in this position."
Anderson is in the process of scheduling official visits and has narrowed his list down considerably.
"Right now, I would say the two visits I know I will take are Ohio State and West Virginia," he said. "Those two are for sure. I'm also looking at visiting Georgia, Michigan State, California and possibly Miami. There might be a few other schools I would consider, but we'll have to see how that goes."
"The Ohio State offer definitely changed things for me," Anderson continued. "That was something I really didn't expect and I have to admit it was exciting for me. I was there for the USC game and really enjoyed it. I have a good relationship with [assistant coach] Taver Johnson and Ohio State has a lot to offer, especially to players from Ohio."
Anderson's measurables have been a constant topic of discussion, with many different listings for his true height and weight, so he cleared up the confusion to set the record straight.
"I am officially 5-foot-8 and three quarters, just a shade under 5-foot-9," he said for the record. "I weigh 185 pounds on the nose. My fastest 40-yard time is a 4.37 at Georgia Tech's summer camp. That's as official as it gets."
