We are 5-1, and there are a lot of teams that can't say that. It's a great day to be a Mountaineer. Kudos to the coaches for getting Geno in the game last week. I think it helped. He looked like a true Freshman in the first half, but did much better in the 2nd. I'm glad they let him throw the ball downfield a few times.
As for the Thundering Herd, their defense was prepared and played very well until they got tired in the fourth quarter. Maybe it was the weather, but their offense really looked pathetic. The only reason they scored was becasue of 3 big penaties that allowed them to keep their drive going.
1. Quarterback - B, Great throw on the TD pass to Arnett. Played as well as we could expect. We need JB agaist uconn, but we could still win with Geno. ,
2. Running back - A-plus, Noel Devine is a superstar and I'm glad we have him.
3. Receivers - B-minus, Only 1 or 2 dropped balls, pretty good blocking most of the time. The thing I don't like about these receivers is when the play breaks down and the QB is scrambling, they tend to stand around, instead of trying to get to an open area. THERE WAS A WES LYONS SIGHTING in this game!!!
4. Offensive line - C-plus or B-minus, Not very good in the first half. Marshall made them look bad. Much better in the second half. This is a big key for this team. We need them to play well for 60 minutes.
5. Pass defense - B, Yes, Marshall sucked - dropped passes, bad throws, but I saw a lot of improvement. We were in the QB's face the entire second half, and even the cornerbacks had tighter coverage with 2 (3?) interceptions. Our safeties are playing very well.
6. Run defense B-plus, Gave up a few yards in the first half. Nothing in the second half.
7. Special teams - B, Kozlowski good as usual, Betancurt 2 good FGs, good coverage on punts, and the squib KO worked, though it might not against a good team.
8. Coaching - A, Why didn't Coach Stewart wear a coat or a hat? What is wrong with that man? I thought the coaching staff did a great job once again. Marshall's defense was good in the first half, but they found a way to get it done with a rookie QB.
POG - Noel Devine
Hon. mention - Geno Smith, Reed Williams, Nate Sowers (couple of West Virginia natives),Chris Neild, Sidney Glover, Julian Miller.
