The Tennessean
MUS quarterback Barry Brunetti has cut his college choices to two -- Mississippi State and West Virginia. Memphis University School senior quarterback Barry Brunetti had said all along his commitment to West Virginia was a firm one.
But that was before the 6-0, 207-pound U.S. Army All-American and Division 2-AA Mr. Football winner made an official visit over the weekend to Starkville, Miss., where Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen apparently rolled out the red carpet for Brunetti.
"(Mullen) doesn't have a quarterback who can do both like I can -- run and throw. That's what he needs badly," said Brunetti, whom Rivals.com ranks the No. 3 dual-threat quarterback prospect nationally and the No. 2 overall prospect in the state.
"He didn't promise me I'd start. He just said the competition would be wide open and he needs somebody who can run and throw."
Brunetti committed to West Virginia in June after also considering scholarship offers from Chattanooga, Duke, Marshall, Mississippi State, Penn State, Purdue, Tulsa and the University of Memphis.
Verbal commitments are non-binding, meaning Brunetti can sign with another school on Feb. 3, the first day of the national signing period.
"I'm going to make my final decision after my in-home visits, when coach Mullen comes in this coming Sunday and (West Virginia head) coach (Bill) Stewart comes in next week," said Brunetti.
"(The visit to Starkville) was good. I loved it. I met a lot of the players and got a chance to meet people around the campus, and everybody was nice and genuine. It made you feel at home there on the campus.
"It's better than what I thought it was."
As a senior, Brunetti passed for 2,257 yards, 23 touchdowns and one interception in 241 attempts. He also rushed for 513 yards and 13 touchdowns, leading MUS to its second straight undefeated season and D2-AA state title.

We do seem to be on the wrong side of people changing their commitments as of late.

This shit happens every year at this time, kids change their minds. I didn't know what the hell I wanted to do when I was 18 either. Looking at the big picture, Geno will most likely be the man for the next 3 years and another highly rated QB (Johnson) coming in as well, he would probably have a better chance playing at Miss St. so I wish him well whatever he decides. You honestly can't expect to keep every kid that gives us a verbal. I can't even remember the kids name now that was coming last year, then Tennessee and ended up red shirting at Clemson. We're better off with Geno. I don't like to lose commits either but whatever happens will happen and we'll be fine so no need to stress over it!

I agree Smitee. With Johnson coming in to back up Geno we'll be all right. We may need the slot for someone else. We have a couple of QB on the bench already that will probablely never get to play but could see action elsewhere. That's not really fair to a kid good enough to play at the college level.

Yeah it is true that we have a stable of capable QBs, and having Brunetti is all that important. true he is a grewat athlete but I am more concerned about some of the other recruits.

It was a big day for their Quarterback Barry Brunetti too, as he was named to Parade Magazines All America Team after piling up over 2,700 yards of offense with 36 touchdowns.
As for where he'll play next year, Brunetti decided to make it official today, telling FOX13 that he'll be a West Virginia Mountaineer.
