Former West Virginia and Herbert Hoover High School standout Grant Buckner wasted little time in making an impact as a professional.
In his first at-bat with the Bristol White Sox of the Appalachian League, Buckner smacked a two-run homer in a 13-4 victory over the Greeneville Astros Tuesday. Buckner's blast came in front of his parents and sister, who made the trip to Bristol, Va., for the game.
"That's the thing you dream of," Bucker told the Bristol Herald Courier. "I got a pitch to hit. I didn't think it was going to carry out, but it did."
Bucker's second game was also memorable Tuesday as he had an RBI single to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth against Greeneville, and the White Sox went on to win 4-3 in 12 innings.
The White Sox are managed by Pete Rose Jr., son of the all-time career hits leader Pete Rose.
