CATANIA, Sicily - Kevin Jones scored 15 points to lead West Virginia to a 91-39 win over NAS Sigonella Wednesday in the opening contest on the Mountaineers' trip to Italy.
The senior pulled down four rebounds and registered five steals.
Senior Darryl Bryant added 13 points, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range, and seven assists.
WVU shot 47.2 percent from the field, including 54.5 percent from 3-point distance. The Mountaineers also held a 46-28 rebounding advantage. West Vriginia led 43-23 at halftime.
"I thought we played hard," coach Bob Huggins said. "I thought it was really good for our younger guys. We rebounded the ball pretty well in spots, and Kevin Jones was really good, especially early when he got us settled down and into things."
Junior Deniz Kilicli had a nice showing as well, netting 12 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting from the field. Freshman walk-on Aric Dickerson also had 12 points.
Freshmen Pat Forsythe and Keaton Miles led West Virginia in rebounding with eight each. Former Logan standout Paul Williamson had seven points, as did Miles and freshman Tommie McCune.
Rounding out the WVU scoring were Kevin Noreen and Dominique Rutledge with six points apiece and Aaron Brown and Pat Forsythe with three each.
WVU's starters were Jones, Bryant, Kilicli, Miles and Brown.
The Mountaineers will continue the trip with another game against NAS Sigonella today. The team will then leave for Rome on Friday morning.
