Receiver played most of Saturday's game with injury

West Virginia leading receiver Tavon Austin injured a finger in Saturday's victory against Norfolk State and had "some sort of work" done Monday, Coach Dana Holgorsen told The Charleston Daily Mail.
"It happened earlier in the game and he played through it," Holgorsen said. "I don't know if they shot him up or what, but he played. He'll be back."
Austin had six receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown in the game and returned three punts and a kickoff.
Holgorsen was not sure what Austin did, but said it was "probably a dislocated finger." He also wasn't sure what kind of work Austin had done Monday.
Dave Kerns, the team's trainer, did not return a message left Monday afternoon.
Holgorsen said Austin was kept out of Sunday's practice and iced the hand throughout. The team was off Monday. Holgorsen said Austin will be checked out today and he expected the junior to practice and be available for Saturday's game at Maryland (1-0).
"If it was something serious or if it was surgery and it was something that would keep him out, I'd say it," Holgorsen said. "The good news is he played through it."
Austin is from Baltimore and was recruited by the Terrapins while starring for Dunbar High. He was twice named the state's consensus offensive player of the year and helped the Poets win three straight Class 1A state championships. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound Austin owns state records for points (790), touchdowns (123), total offensive yards (9,258) and rushing yards (7,962).
He and Ivan McCartney both have 10 receptions for the 18th-ranked Mountaineers (2-0). Austin's have been worth a team-high 143 yards and a touchdown.
The Big East Conference's special team's player of the week last week, Austin is also averaging 48 yards on three kickoff returns, including a 100-yard touchdown against Marshall, and 22 yards on six punt returns, including a 64-yard return against Norfolk State.
