Maryland Coach Randy Edsall announced Thursday night that two senior wide receivers, Ronnie Tyler and Quintin McCree, are suspended indefinitely because of a violation of team rules.
“The expectation of our program is for our student-athletes to conduct themselves in the proper manner academically, athletically and socially,” Edsall said. “Unfortunately, Quintin and Ronnie fell short of these expectations.”
The Prince George’s County district court database indicates that Tyler was charged on Thursday with second-degree assault. His trial is scheduled for Nov. 1.
There is no timetable for their reinstatement.
In Maryland’s season-opening victory over Miami, Tyler caught six passes for 43 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown reception. McCree caught seven passes for 39 yards.
Losing two of Maryland’s top wide receivers is a blow to the Terrapins’ hopes of knocking off No. 18 West Virginia on Saturday.
