West Virginia University men's basketball player Deniz Kilicli's house caught on fire Thursday afternoon.
The fire broke out around 1:45 p.m. in the bathroom of the apartment directly below Kilicli's at the intersection of University Avenue and Overhill Street in Sunnyside.
"There was a fire in our bathroom," says WVU sophomore Mike Martin, who lives in the apartment below Kilicli. "It was an electrical fire, [firefighters] say it was one of the heaters or something like that. What I do know is that they ripped all the siding off the house. It went through my bathroom to the second floor."
Martin says his roommate tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful.
The extent of damage is not known at this point. No one was hurt.
WVU officials have offered the students places to stay in on-campus housing.
