MORGANTOWN - West Virginia University fans once had the pleasure of watching basketball standout Warren Baker, who hailed from White Sulphur Springs.
Now, Mountaineer fans are in line to watch Baker's nephew.
On Friday night, Brandon Watkins, a 6-foot-9 junior at Grady School in Atlanta, committed to play for WVU and coach Bob Huggins in 2013.
Watkins has been offered by Clemson, Georgia, Memphis, South Carolina and Miami, in addition to West Virginia.
The 220-pound standout decided to make the announcement special. He made the declaration at a gathering held at the Knights of Columbus in Morgantown prior to Baker's induction ceremony into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame.
"Yes, I've committed," Watkins said. "[WVU assistant] Coach [Erik] Martin offered me a couple weeks ago and wanted me to [commit] on the spot. I wanted to do it when my uncle was being inducted."
Watkins said he's been following WVU since he was little because of his uncle, who now lives in Morgantown and is a close friend of Huggins.
The forward has many connections to WVU and weight trained in Pittsburgh over the summer with former Mountaineer football player Rasheed Marshall. Also this summer, Watkins played AAU ball with the Georgia Stars.
"I had a big summer," Watkins said. "I received a lot of attention from some powerhouse schools."
