CBSSports.com first reported late Monday night that the Big East Conference has unanimously approved raising the exit fee for the league from $5 million up to $10 million – however, that raised fee is dependent on both Navy and Air Force accepting eventual invitations to join the conference as football only members.
Navy and Air Force have both expressed interest in joining the Big East, but wanted to see more of a commitment from the schools already remaining in the league. Louisville and West Virginia have both been mentioned as potential targets for the Big 12 conference if it eventually needs a 10th member to replace a possibly departing Missouri to the SEC or if it decides to expand back to 12 schools.
Early reports last week questioned whether Louisville would participate in a vote to raise the Big East exit fee, but both the Cardinals and West Virginia, along with all of the other 12 remaining member schools voted for the proposed fee increase.
