University of Missouri Chancellor Brady Deaton is scheduled to meet with his fellow Big 12 board of directors members in Dallas today in an event that could impact West Virginia University’s conference affiliation.
Deaton is expected to tell the board that Missouri is leaving for the SEC, but there may also be one last attempt by the Big 12 to keep Missouri. If Missouri does leave, the league is expected to move quickly to replace Missouri, and possibly expand to 12 teams.
West Virginia is believed to be on the short list of teams under consideration. Several media reports over the weekend indicated that WVU is the first choice.
“Reports surfaced over the weekend that West Virginia has become the league’s leading expansion candidate. A source confirmed that to the Star on Sunday,” reported the Kansas City Star.
