Rodriguez: Dorrell Jalloh playing extremely well

MORGANTOWN— Dorrell Jalloh has been one of the most impressive performers during the first half of West Virginia University’s football season.
Besides catching 14 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown, the 6-0, 195-pound junior wide receiver has been blocking better than ever.
And it’s in leading the way for others to gain yardage, especially on the perimeter, that Jalloh has been noted for the most.
Coach Rich Rodriguez singled out Jalloh earlier in the week among the foremost standouts as the No. 8-ranked Mountaineers enjoyed a 5-1 season’s start.
“Dorrell has been playing extremely well this year,” he said. “He’s playing his best football of his career.”
The Greensboro, N.C., native is athletic, catches the ball well, and blocks with authority. He was credited with eight knockdowns last season.
Hampered by a stress fracture in the early part of 2006, Jalloh is healthy now and determined to continue to make a lot of plays.
“It’s an opportunity for me to block exceptionally well for other guys,” he said. “I attribute my improvement to hard work.
“I just go out there and try to contribute on every play, whether it’s pass or run. I do my assignments running routes, blocking and receiving.”
Jalloh cherishes this week’s open date on the WVU schedule.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to work on fundamentals, plus on little things which you overlook sometimes,” he said. “Our receiving corps also needs to step up and do more.
“You can’t just rest and do nothing in an open week. You’ve got to keep working to get better. You strive to make more plays.”
With starting quarterback Patrick White injured, backups sophomore Jarrett Brown and senior Adam Bednarik are getting more snaps with the first team.
“I think that’s good,” Jalloh said. “They can benefit from the extra work.”
After four fairly light practice sessions this week, the Mountaineers will get a break Friday and Saturday while the coaches are out recruiting.
WVU will get back to business on Sunday, preparing for the Oct. 20 homecoming clash with Mississippi State (4-2) at Mountaineer Field/Milan Puskar Stadium.
