WVU picked No. 4 by Sports Illustrated
Sports Illustrated’s college football preview edition, which hits newsstands today, picked West Virginia to finish fourth in the nation.
Mountaineer running back Steve Slaton is one of five athletes to be featured on the regional covers of the magazine. This marks the second straight year a Mountaineer player has been featured on one of the regional covers. Slaton, quarterback Pat White and fullback Owen Schmitt were on a cover last year.
USC is picked No. 1 by SI, followed by LSU, Florida, WVU and Louisville. Rutgers is ranked 13th.
Schmitt, a senior fullback for the Mountaineers, has been named to ESPN.com’s 2007 preseason first-team All-American squad.
