I'm just curious what the deal is with all this hat controversy. The only thing I had heard directly was an interview with ESPN in which Coach Rodriguez said that it's like the Yankees, teams sell out when WVU is in town. And now this has blown up and USF fans and some of their coaches are yacking about it. From what I have heard some of the WVU players were wearing Yankee hats when they got off the team bus? I'm wondering what boy genius came up with that idea and why Rodriguez or his staff would allow this at all (if that is what happened). If I were coaching a team that was only 4-0 against average teams and I saw this behavior in my team, I'd be kicking some tail ends at practice and making sure my team understood that a) they haven't accomplished shit yet b) my team would be reminded that it's more important to be focused on your opponent than acting like a bunch of arrogant kids and c) there would not have been a Yankee hat to be found when my team got off the bus. Why give the other team something else to motivate them and this sort of thing just makes me think some of the players were a little too full of themselves going in to USF and maybe bought into their own hype. I really question the coaches that allowed this to happen, that was just dumb. Makes me Thoughts?

I hadn't heard this either. If it's true, it's a little too arrogant, and their play showed their arrogance last Friday.

I don't know about THAT..
There were rumors circulating that WVU fans were gonna be wearing t shirts with a plane crash or something like that at the Marshall game.. I think that was all false and inuendo..
This situation also reeks of stupid propeganda. Especially since one of Rodriguez' mottos is "stay humble, stay hungry"
I wouldn't believe it until someone posted a picture of it. If it was witnessed.. Someone had to have had a camera phone or something..
just my 2 cents.

Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see is the way to go here, I never heard or saw anything regarding the Yankee hats - the only thing I heard is that White threw the game and his parents deposited a huge amount of money into their bank account lol

I guess it is true. I cut and pasted this from an article on Scout.com
Rodriguez also commented on several of his players wearing New York Yankee hats to the game, in reference to his statement that WVU has been like the Yankees an road games over the past couple of years. He wasn’t backing down from the thought, however. Nor does he believe it had any effect on the game.
“Yes, we had a few guys wearing Yankee hats,” he confirmed. “But after the first whistle, what is the big deal? It’s a fact. Every time we go somewhere, we help sell the place out. That’s nothing that slams the other team. It’s a compliment to where our program has gone. If other coaches want to use it, then I don’t care.”
USF head coach Jim Leavitt mentioned the item as a motivational factor for his

Rainman posted a thread about an article Bob Hertzel wrote. Hertzel is one of my least favorite sports writers and personnaly I can't wait to see the day he writes his last article for the Dominion Post but so be it. It seems to be a fact that a few of the players (unnamed at this point) had Yankee hats on in reference too RR comments. I'm betting there won't be any of that going on from here on out. I hope Coach has stressed the 'stay humble' mantra and we won't see anymore of this foolishness. I know when your dealing with kids it's tough to get them to not buy into the hype, but I am sure the USF game was a good lesson for all of them.
