WVU wins 13-12 over Ohio in 10th
MORGANTOWN — West Virginia’s never-say-die baseball team outlasted Ohio University 13-12 in another wild marathon Wednesday night at Hawley Field. Outfielder Austin Markel’s double scored third baseman Vince Belnome with one out in the 10th to give the Mountaineers their 25th victory of the season in the nonconference contest. The visiting Bobcats led by 10-1 in the fourth inning. But WVU kept chipping away at the nine-run deficit. It scored four runs in the eighth, then forged the 12-all tie with two out in the ninth. Justin Sparks singled and went to third on two errors in the ninth, then scored on shortstop Tyler Kuhn’s single to force the game into an extra inning. Sophomore Chris Enourato, the WVU closer, posted his fourth victory to go with five saves by retiring Ohio’s last six batters in the ninth and 10th innings. WVU had the edge in hits, 20-17. The game lasted three hours, 55 minutes.
