WVU women honored at annual banquet
The West Virginia University women's soccer team handed out season awards Saturday at its annual postseason banquet. The event celebrated the team's season and the careers of its five-member senior class. Sophomore Carolyn Blank was named the team’s most valuable player after earning all-region honors at center midfield. Senior Ashley Banks earned the team’s most valuable offensive player award after earning AllAmerica and Big East Offensive Player of the Year honors at forward. Senior Natalie Cocchi was named the team’s most defensive player, while true freshman Kerri Butler was voted the team’s most improved player. Senior Ashley Neal was selected for the Mountaineer S.O.C.C.E.R. award. The award is given by the coaches to the individual who displays good Sportsmanship, Optimism, Character, Concern, Effort and Respect.
