WVU errors costly in extra-inning loss
MORGANTOWN — Five errors proved costly for the West Virginia University baseball team as it fell to South Florida in 11 innings, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Hawley Field. Tyler Kuhn and Dan DiBartolomeo combined for five of WVU’s eight hits to lead the Mountaineers (24-7, 6-3). WVU won the first two games of the series, 10-8 and 15-14. Billy Gross (4-1) took the loss in relief. He pitched effectively, giving up only one earned run on three hits in five innings. USF reliever Stephen Hunt (1-1) got the win by pitching a scoreless 11th inning. Trailing by 2-0, WVU rallied to tie the score at 2-2 in the eighth inning. Jordon Yost had a leadoff single, and two batters later, Kuhn doubled off the right field wall to put two runners in scoring position. Kuhn then scored on a wild pitch by USF starter. Jedd Gyorko was hit by a pitch, and Vince Belnome followed with a sacrifice fly to center field off reliever Junior Carlin to tie things up. USF retook the lead in the 11th inning as Joey Angelberger brought in the game-winning run with an RBI fielder’s choice. Yu rish took a no decision, going six innings and allowing two runs on three hits. The left-hander added five strikeouts. The Mountaineers host nonconference Ohio University Wednesday.

In baseball if you win 2 out of 3 in your league and for that matter anytime good things are going to happen for you at the end of the season.
