Well, I can sum this trip up in 3 words: "They Ain't Mountaineers!!!"
I don't know how it looked on TV but it rained like hell almost all night and it was quite cool and windy, but I managed to stay somewhat dry except for my feet. We went to a tailgate at an excellent location in the parking lot right in front of the stadium that was put on by some firm that my cousins company deals with or something like that. Get this.....the tailgate was catered. They had a white tent with a buffet, the little burners under the pans and everything and good beer as well; Sam Adams, Amstel, Hieniken, Michelob etc... Now, I'm all about free food and beer so I helped myself and it was good, but not my kinda crowd. There were a ton of people tailgaiting but it seemed more like a wake than people getting pumped up about taking on the number 2 team in the country. There were a few hoops and hollers once in awhile but basically it was dead. There were quite a few drunk college kids partying at apartment buildings on the walk to the stadium but nothing that impressed me. So anyhow, I'm having a few beers hanging out with these hoity toity people that I have absolutely nothing in common with ready to talk some football and somehow work the Mountaineers into the conversation. The only problem was they weren't talking about football. They're talking about the food, the weather, work etc... I'm thinking you got to be kidding me, WTF is wrong with these people?? Even talking to people standing in line for the pisser, no one was talking about the game. I did talk to a guy who had a Marshall shirt on, but turns out he was really a Mountaineer fan and someone had given him the shirt and it was the only one he had with a hood on it. He was knowledgable about the team and players and we chatted for a bit, but what REAL Mountaineer fan wears a Marshall shirt for any reason?? Walking through the stadium to our seats there were several chants of "Let's Go----Hokies", and of course I was screaming "Mountaineers" but no one seemed to notice. We had decent seats in the corner of the end zone, upper level on the BC side. To their credit, they do make a lot of noise inside the stadium, but when the guy caught that last touchdown pass you coulda heard a pin drop. Anyhow, I got to see a decent game and eat and drink for free, although a buddy called me on the way back and said there were some horrible calls which we didn't really get a good look at being there. All in all, the best way I can put it is THANK GOD I"M A MOUNTAINEER !!!!!!!!
