Commensurate to the pay scale in your area?
Here, sadly it is not.. Everything was pretty ok unti; Hurricane Ivan, and then EVERYTHING went up here by LOTS except for annual salaries.

I been on SSI since '99 when I had my by-pass surgery and my check stays the same while the price of everything else goes up. Back when I worked at the phone co. overtime was always available to me that compensated for the rising costs but I dont have that option now.

The cost of a single-family home in a Chicago suburb is about $650,000 and the average salary is somewhere around 45,000. Doesn't quite add up.

Not really. I mean, I LOVE it that my house has tripled in value, but the prices in Center City are off the charts! If someone says "that's cheap" after I charge them for their drink, I know they're from NYC. They seem to be the only city MORE expensive than Philly.

Hey Dehayes, I am in the north suburbs (Glenview). Where are you? We are getting a group together to go to the Cincinnati game. Interested?

Well, I was in the real estate business for about 5 years. This current downturn is going to have a very negative effect on our economy for the next 3 years. Florida is one of the areas where real estate prices are very inflated right now. We are going to see over a million mortgage defaults in the next 3 years, and values will go down. If you own a house, hang on to it. If you don't, I reccommend you rent until prices go down and then you'll get a bargain in a few years. You can also expect prices on most things to continue to go up. Possible recession. So hold on to what you got.

I don't own a house, I rent an apt. I live outside of DC in Northern VA (Fairfax Co.). All I can say is that it is WAY to expensive. I pay 1200 a month for a one bedroom with a small den. It is nice, but damn that is a lot of money to shell out every month. DC is even more expensive. When I moved here I looked down town for a place and they want 1100 for an efficency, and if you have a car, they want another $250 a month for parking.

Smurph - I'm in northwest burbs (Des Plaines), but am less than 30 days away from moving to Houston, TX. My wife always wants to go to Glenview to shop to Von Maur, so we're there quite a bit. Are you originally from WV? If so, what part?
