People in the health care profession are probably the WORST patients because we think we can fix ourselves, and only go to the doc or the hospital after relentless attempts at self medicating. I'm AWEFUL about this.. Fortunately, I have a doctor that understands that when I say, uncle and make an appontment, I'm REALLY REALLY Sick and I get an appointment ASAP. And she doesn't yell at me too much for waiting so long to go to the doc..

im usually pretty good at going if I know I need to, theres the problem me determining whether I need togo ro not.

Yep, I use the hell out of my domestic partner benifits that the city of Philadelphia bestows upon me.

Like MJ I was in the field for years : Firefighter/EMT/Medic/Supervisor in phlebotomy.
I hate going to the doctor. But lately there has been no choice, self medicating is not doing the trick and I needed a little help. But don't get me wrong, I like the doctor that I have because he is close to my age and we get along. He is not the NO DRINKING, NO SMOKING type.He just says do in moderation.
But the most important thing he has done for myself and my family is when my Father was alive. With my background he would trust me to diagnose some things over the phone with him, then he would call in what was needed or advise to come to the hospital. That was a great help especially in the later stages.

It is nice to be asked what YOU think is wrong.. Every once in ahile my doc allows me to do that.. but I avoid going for the routine things so she sort of makes me have EVERYTHING done when I go in for pneumonia..
Dr V.. I came in because I can't breathe... Do you HAVE to do that pap smear?
LOL Sorry for the visual..

Its VERY cool that some companies/insurance policies out there recognize domestic partners. I wish it would be a trend of the future, but unfortunately most policies are getting more and more expensive and offering less and less services. |
