I've been watching khou.com and they are providing live coverage of the area.
They just mentioned that Katy was still wondy and didn't have power but no people in immediate distress. Looking at some of the coverage, i'm sure Doug and Shelly are ok.. they just don't have power.. He'll be glad he froze those zip lock baggies full of ice. .

Hello!! MJ had it right on. We just got our power back, but outside of that, we were extremely lucky!! We live in a brand new community, so all the fences are brand new, the homes are brand new, and the trees are only 7 ft. tall. The new construction held up well in the strong winds and only a few of the new trees were uprooted in our neighborhood. Our house appears to be perfectly fine, but I need to get up on the roof to be sure.
Yesterday we drove around the Cinco Ranch area of Katy, which is the next neighborhood to ours and it had a ton of damage. Tons of fences fallen, step light poles bend or facing the wrong direction, the lights themselves danging from the poles, hanging by the power cords down to the ground, huge 1 or 2' diameter trees uprooted, several trees on top of cars...
Today we went into the WEST end of Houston, and several tall buildings with windows blown out, no place has power, flooding everywhere. The building I work in looks like it sustained severe roof damage. I took some photos which I'll work on posting over the next few days.

Doug, Glad you guys made it through OK. Just so you know, we have had record rainfalls here in Chicago...... 6.7" on Saturday set the all-time one day record for O'Hare Airport. 9" total for the weekend. Nothing compared to where you are, but there is massive flooding, many streets closed, including some expressways and thousnads were forced to leave their homes with rivers overflowing. In fact, Des Plaines, where Doug lived was one of the worst for flooding. Also, Glenview where we live. We were fortunate to not be affected. It was just over a year ago that our power was off for 4 1/2 days and our basement flooded.

Glad you and Shelly are safe. Also glad your power is already restored. You will become quick best friends with those who have lost power.. an hour in a cool AC home with a Hot shower is about as good as it gets after sweating your behind off taking cold showers.
I hope things return to normal as soonas possible.. but its gonna take some time.
