As you all are aware, I have been barely working since around October. Our hospital was attempting to acquire another local hospital to inevitably change our location from the ghetto downtown to a better payer mix on the north end of town. So they were crunching hours and if you were not totally busy, you went home. I filed for and got partial unemployment in December after my hours were so scant.
I had to move from my house because I wasn't making enough to pay the bills. I moved in with my ex as he was barely hanging on financially as well. That's not ideal.. but its not THAT bad either. Still I was working, at least some so I could still hold my head high.
last Tuesday I was summoned to HR which is NEVER good. It was the only day I worked last week. I was sure they were just going to change my status to PRN and eliminate my benefits. Something entirely worth pregnant doging about especially after 8 years of failthful employment there.
Instead I was handed a package that informed me that my position was being eliminated. After not just 8 years of profitable service to the hospital but 8 years of every other night, weekend and holiday of call I was handed a packet that told me the reasons they didn't think I was needed.
Needless to say, as professional as I always am, I lost my composure. I think I cried for about 8 hours straight. I have never ever ever left a job that wasn't of my own choosing. I didn't lose just my job. I lost my career, I lost my identity.

Sorry to hear, MJ. Medical jobs are rampant in Houston if you're looking for a change of scenery! I know several in the various hospitals here and would do anything I could to get your foot in the door.

Plus, MJ, in Houston, you'll get to see Steve Slaton play on Sundays!

I did get a severance package of 1 month's salary after my 2 weeks notice that is up on Tuesday.. Its just that I never really planned to leave Baptist. My heart is just broken and the only other real game in town is Kids and babies..
