WVU closing PRT for summer
MORGANTOWN — West Virginia University will close the Personal Rapid Transit system for the summer, according to a press release Wednesday. The system, known as the PRT, will go down for repairs at the end of the current spring semester on May 11. The outage will last through Aug. 14, which is 10 days before the start of the fall semester. The announcement changes WVU's plans, which were to leave the PRT open for the May 15-17 commencement weekend and into at least part of the summer term. The Wednesday press release said plenty of free parking would be available for commencement. WVU will be making structural repairs, replacing some cables and sections of power rails and installing closed-circuit TV, public address and message board systems, according to the release. During the time the PRT is down, WVU will offer free shuttle service on Monday through Saturday at current PRT stops to accommodate students. Those services begin May 18, the first day of the summer term.
