Seahawks fullback Owen Schmitt was arrested Saturday on suspicion of DUI in Pierce County.
He was arrested by Black Diamond Police and according to the department's press release, an officer pulled Schmitt over after he was seen to weave and follow too closely and he subsequently failed a field-sobriety test.
Schmitt's blood-alcohol content (BAC) was measured to be 0.151 and 0.161 just after midnight, according to records from the Washington State Patrol. The legal limit for BAC in Washington is 0.08.
The Seahawks released a written statement from Schmitt on the incident.
"I sincerely apologize to the team, the NFL, the fans and my family and friends for my actions and my poor judgment," the statement said. "I fully understand the seriousness of this matter, and I am disappointed in myself. I am committed to earning back the trust of everyone affected."
Schmitt, 24, is a second-year fullback the Seahawks drafted from West Virginia in 2008. He played mostly special teams as a rookie, but is the first-team fullback after starting fullback Leonard Weaver signed with Philadelphia as a free-agent in March.
Schmitt is scheduled to be arraigned on July 8. He could be subject to discipline from the NFL under the league's substance-abuse policy, though first-time offenders are not necessarily subject to suspension.
Schmitt is the second Seahawk to be arrested this offseason. Linebacker Leroy Hill was arrested for marijuana possession.
