MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University women's soccer player Carolyn Blank been named to the 2009 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy watch list, released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Tuesday.
The award represents the highest level of individual achievement in the sport.
Blank is one of 45 players named to the preseason listing. The Toms River, N.J., native earned All-America honors at midfield from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Soccer Buzz and TopDrawerSoccer as a junior in 2008. She also was named first team All-Big East Conference and became the school's second Big East Midfielder of the Year winner.
In other WVU soccer news:
* For the third consecutive season, the Mountaineers' women's team has been selected to win the league division title.
The Mountaineers garnered 13 of the 15 first-place votes in voting done by the league's 16 head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players or teams.
Totaling 118 points overall in the American division, WVU edged out Connecticut, which had 104 points. The Mountaineers boast two all-conference preseason selections in senior Carolyn Blank, a unanimous pick, and junior Megan Mischler.
* Also, the 2009 recruiting class for the Mountaineers' men's team was ranked No. 20 by CollegeSoccerNews.
