FAIRMONT — It was business as usual at the North Central Athletic Conference cross country championship at Apple Valley Golf Course.
Elkins’ Letitia Propst (19:53.21) cruised to a victory in the girls’ race, Morgantown’s Cody Pelliccioni was the victor in the boys’ race and Fairmont Senior’s boys’ team took the team title rather easily.
“I was pleased with the way we ran today,” Fairmont Senior boys’ coach Chris Neptune said. “We needed it. We haven’t run a real good race lately and this is a confidence booster.” University won the girls’ race with 46 points. North Marion was second (62), followed by Preston (73), Fairmont Senior (107), Morgantown (113), Buckhannon (146), East Fairmont (163) and Elkins (171).
The top 11 runners are named allconference with Propst earning Runner of the Year honors with the victory.
Fairmont Senior’s Chelsea Clark (2nd, 20:06.38) and Alyssa Scherich (4th, 20:48.38) and North Marion’s Devan Elliott (7th, 21:00.15) and Emma Harrison (8th, 21:07.40) were the Marion County representatives named all-NCAC.
In addition to Elliott and Harrison, the Huskies were led by
Marcie Mason (12th, 21:19.97), Jordan McDonald (13th, 21:27.93), Brittany Reynolds (22nd, 22:10.98), Kelly Humphreys (30th, 22:55.30) and Cassy Menas (44th, 24:33.81).
The Polar Bears were paced by Oliva Duke (21st, 22:02.28), Tori Hawkins (22:52.02), Sierra Greenlee (51st, 26:20.55), Charlee Fox (53rd, 29:14.54) and Katheryn Valentine (54th, 31:07.95) as well as Clark and Scherich.
East Fairmont’s girls’ team was led by: Michaela Luckey (19th, 21:54.91); Debra Smith (31st, 23:02.17); Amber Trickett (36th, 23:34.50); Brenda Palmer (38th, 23:50.59); Amanda Boyce (42nd, 24:11.85); and Sydney Moore (45th, 24:42.83).
In the boys’ race Fairmont Senior’s Dayton McVicker came in just behind Pelliccioni at 16:39.06.
“Cody is a phenomenal runner,” Neptune said about MHS’ Pelliccioni. “I thought Dayton gave him a good run today. I think Dayton was leading into the second mile before Cody pulled away, but to come in just eight seconds behind a runner like that was a statement for Dayton.”
The Polar Bears had four allNCAC runners with McVicker, Patrick Stanton (4th, 17:28.45), Gannon Flowers (10th, 18:13.74) and Joseph Vozniak (11th, 18:19.65) all cracking the Top 11.
“Joe came in ahead of a kid from Elkins, who’s a Top 10 runner,” Neptune said. “That’s a nice win for him. I’m real pleased he made all-conference because he works real hard. He’s back and forth between cross country and soccer practice; his day doesn’t end until late in the evening.”
The Polar Bears had a team score of 42, followed by Morgantown (68), Preston (79), University (102), Elkins (114), North Marion (150), Buckhannon (175) and East Fairmont (177).
FSHS was also led by Jordyn Work (15th, 18:53.99), Jacob Richards (20th, 19:17.08) and Billy Hardy (27th, 19:44.00).
The Huskies were paced by: Andrew Stanley (25th, 19:40.68); Brandon Latocha (19:49.78); John Craw (30th, 19:52.99); Justin McDonald (32, 20:09.79); Mackenzie Wayne (34th, 20:13.04); Evan Moore (41st, 20:39.36); and Brooks Russell (44th, 21:07.51). Ronnie Cosco led East Fairmont with a 13th-place finish at 18:42.07.
