MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - The NCAA has recertified West Virginia University's athletic department.
WVU President James P. Clements says the Division I Committee on Athletics Certification on Thursday notified the department it is in "substantial conformity" with NCAA operating principles.
The NCAA says the certification process ensures integrity and helps institutions improve their athletics departments.
WVU's program was recertified by the NCAA in 1996 and then again in 2001. The current recertification process began two years ago.
