The West Virginia women's basketball team is hoping the same opponent will equal the same result.
For the second time in four days, a No. 8 Notre Dame team will visit the Coliseum with tipoff at 7 tonight. The Mountaineers men's team knocked off No. 8 Notre Dame Saturday in front of a packed house.
Women's coach Mike Carey and No. 19 WVU know they're up against a tough opponent, just like the men's team was on Saturday.
"They're a very good basketball team," said Carey. "They're very solid and have a lot of players that can score. Their guards aren't super quick but they're very strong and physical. They show you a lot of looks defensively."
The Irish enter tonight's contest having just had a nine-game win streak snapped by then-No. 2 Connecticut. Notre Dame has lost just two Big East games this season, both to the Huskies.
West Virginia (21-6 overall, 7-6 Big East) has a little momentum of its own, coming off a win at Pittsburgh in a game that saw the Mountaineers break the 90-point barrier for the first time in league play this season. The victory snapped a three-game skid for WVU and gave Carey his 200th victory at the school.
"We definitely needed that win," senior Liz Repella said. "It was a good win; maybe we didn't play the defense we would have liked to play but on offense we really got it going and I think that really boosted our confidence. We've been struggling to score the ball, so to score 90 points when we've been scoring 50 points really gave us a confidence boost."
The Irish (22-5, 11-2) lead the all-time series 17-2.
The game will be broadcast on CBS College Sports.
Madina Ali was named to the Big East Honor Roll for the week after recording 21 points and a career-high 13 rebounds in the Mountaineers' 90-79 win at Pitt.
Ali has led the team in scoring and rebounding in three straight games.
