Frustrating times lie ahead...

hey everybody, I know it's been a while since I've been around here, but I need to get this off of my chest...

My GPA for the past semester was REALLY REALLY awful, so awful it terribly sunk me under the 2.0 overall GPA mark, and I know for a fact that I will be suspended from WVU for the upcoming academic year. My financial aid will be canceled sooner or later because of my awful GPA. That means for a year, I will have to go to school back home @ WVUP.

There are several "pros" I see in this: I can finally get my math and science requirements for my degree out of the way that I have been neglecting for so long... and I won't have to pay rent or anything. But, the "cons" outweigh the "pros"... I won't be in Morgantown, etc.

That mainly explains why I haven't been around... I've been pretty depressed about not being in Morgantown for the upcoming academic year. Also, I'm working 2 jobs in Morgantown through the conclusion of my lease (which ends on the 31st of July.) I just really hate the thought of being stuck in Parkersburg for a year... I went to WVUP for 3 years before I moved to Morgantown... but, I'm going to do whatever it takes to graduate from WVU.

My parents are disappointed in me, but promised me to help me all they can and my dad said, "We are going to work through this!" I looked through the student handbook and it looks like sometime in February 2010, I am going to have to petition the Dean of the Eberly College of Arts & Sciences; as well as the Financial Aid office for total reinstatement.

Times are going to be hard for me; mainly mentally/emotionally... I've made a solid group of friends that I always hang out with, etc... and although most of them will be back when I (should) return to Morgantown, it's just not going to be the same. The only thing I can think to do is make the best of the situation I put myself in (yes, I will admit fault...), and I will just have to be on a comeback like Donald Trump was able to do.

Damn Jim, sorry to hear about your problems but if going back to P'burg for a year to get back on track and get your GPA back up in the 2-3 range then you gotta do it - hey whatever it takes and besides you'll still close enough to make the football games. Best of luck to you.

Ugh.. Maybe this is just a good wake up call to get ya refocused. At least your family is supportive in this.. trust me it could have been worse.. Put your nose to the grind stone and you will be back at wvu in no time

Hey bro sometimes we have to get a smack in the face to enable us to see again. MJ's right, it could have been much worse. I know it doesn't feel like that to you right now. Sounds like you have some good back-up in family and also a game plan established. Don't lose your sense of direction and everything will fall into place. Keep your chin up.

I am really trying my hardest to look at this from a positive perspective, however, when I think about not being in Morgantown this fall, it just upsets me.

Only a few of my friends know about it, and I believe I will eventually have to tell the rest of my good friends about this... I am not sure what their reaction is going to be... but, one of my close friends gave me a ton of advice (she's a GA English teacher) and I was glad she did.

I also went to my doctor recently to see if he could put me back on ADHD meds (I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 12 years old) and they worked wonders for me. However, due to my heart problems, I was taken off the meds when I was 21... so my doctor does not know what to do for me. But, I was "re-diagnosed" with ADHD so I could take advantage of disability learning services at WVUP, and eventually, WVU. I think the re-diagnosis is a part of my process to improve myself.

I may throw a "send-off" party to send myself out on a high note...

Well, I got my letter in the mail yesterday letting me know that I have been suspended for the following academic year.

Im sorry to hear about your situation Jim. Trust me when I tell you I have been there and done alot fo what you are going through at some point in my life. May not the exact thing. The best thing that you can do is use the setbacks as a learning experience and motivation to get where you want to go and be where you want to go. If you need me for an ear or to talk You know how to get ahold of me. Take care and keep your head up

Thanks everybody. It hasn't hit me yet that I won't be up here for the upcoming academic year... but I know when it does, it's going to hit me pretty freakin hard...

I just don't know how I am going to break the news to the rest of my friends...

Well, this past weekend in the mail, I received a glimmer of good news:

There's a program @ WVU designed for Seniors in the situation I am in called "Stay Off of Suspension"; I have to meet with a Undergrad Advising Student Center Senior Adviser next Thursday to sign a contract to get my GPA back up, I have to attend 2 mandatory advising meetings, get a SEMESTER GPA of 2.0, and abide by the game plan my adviser gives me.

I now have my doctor working extensively with me because of my ADHD, I am going back on the meds. The only caveat is getting my financial aid back... it seems if I tell the FInancial Aid Reinstatement Committee the same thing I am going to tell my adviser about my problems/history with ADHD and how the meds helped me in the past, and can help me in the future, then I think there's a chance I could be staying up here after all!!!
