I don't know if I could be more stressed because of work. For the past year we've gone from a thriving profitable department of 4 full time techs and a part time receptionist, to 3 full time techs and a part time receptionist that we were training in EEG. Then they closed our out patient lab, layed off the recepionist/EEG tech. She went to work for the new neurologists' private practice. Then the hospital wanted to force one of our techs to drive 2.5 hours a morning and then 2.5 hours home 5 days a week to "build business". That tech got hired at a pediatric neuro group making huge money.. so now we're down to two.
Alan, my boss (who knows intra operative monitoring) and me, who doesn't. We are a level 2 trauma center and we are required to have 2 full time techs on staff and 24 hour call coverage. Alan has been offered a very lucrative position at a hospital near his house. I think he might want to stay at baptist, and Baptist really NEEDS him to STAY... Alan told HIS supervisor today that he (we) need considerable wage adjustments or he's going to take the Ft Walton job...
The reason everyone (from our former department) was so readily absorbed into other jobs in the area at considerable pay increases is because no one knows how to do what we do and people in our field will NOT relocate to this area because its gotten extremely expensive to live here and even the higher paid employees in this area are still below the AVERAGE pay of our field nationally.
Sooo.. by next Wednesday or so... Either both Alan and I will have substancial pay raises, or Alan is going to leave and I will be the ONLY person in our department.
Having another beer!
